Pick-Up and First Stop: Cathedral of St. Nicholas
We’ll pick you up at your location and head to the majestic Cathedral of St. Nicholas, located in the prestigious Vaporia district. This cathedral features lavish interiors and impressive architecture. It’s surrounded by high-ceiling mansions that seem to float above the sea.
Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour
Following the narrow streets of Hermoupolis, we’ll reach the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour. Built in 1824 by refugees from Psara and Chios, this three-aisled basilica features a dome and two bell towers. It houses the Bell of St. Nicholas of Psara and several historic relics. The church’s design resembles the Church of Our Lady in Tinos, and it includes a black-and-white mosaic and a historic arcade. We’ll also visit the Ecclesiastical Museum, which displays sacred vessels, books, and manuscripts.
Church of the Assumption of the Virgin
Next, we’ll visit the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin, the second oldest church on the island. Built in 1828, this three-aisled basilica boasts remarkable architecture. Inside, exquisite wood and marble elements adorn the church, with domes framed in wood that resemble an overturned boat. The church houses an icon of the Assumption by El Greco, dating back to 1562.
Saint George Church in Ano Syros
Next, we’ll head to Saint George Church in Ano Syros by private car. This Catholic cathedral, built in 1200, sits at the highest point of the hill. The church features a large complex with a bell tower, baptistery, and historical archive building. The intricate woodcarvings and marble flooring inside are stunning. Statues of Saints, created by 18th-century Italian sculptors, welcome visitors at the entrance.
Church of the Resurrection of the Savior
Finally, we’ll visit the Church of the Resurrection of the Savior. Constructed in 1874 by Dimitris Eleftheriadis, this three-aisled Byzantine-style church with neoclassical elements dominates the hill of Hermoupolis. Its dome, bell towers, and unique icons make it a breathtaking site. We’ll be transported there by private vehicle for a memorable end to our tour.
