From Running Shoes to Ancient Stones: Susanne’s Short Getaway to Delphi & Meteora

After months of training, Susanne and her friend finally made it to Greece to participate in the iconic Athens Marathon. The excitement of running through the historic streets of the capital was unforgettable—but their adventure didn’t stop there. With some time left before heading home, they decided to explore more of the country. What better way than a two-day journey to Delphi & Meteora?

A Smooth Start from Athens

Early in the morning, their friendly English-speaking driver picked them up from their hotel. Everything was arranged ahead of time, which allowed them to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the drive. Leaving Athens behind, they headed toward Central Greece, passing through charming towns like Thebes, Levadia, and Arachova—a beautiful mountain village known for its traditional stone houses and views over Mount Parnassus.

Delphi – Where History Whispers

By late morning, they reached Delphi, the legendary site once considered the center of the ancient world. Standing among the ruins of the Temple of Apollo and the ancient theater, Susanne felt a strong connection to the past. With each step, history unfolded before them. Their driver shared helpful context along the way, enriching the visit without the need for a guide.

After exploring Delphi, they continued their journey through rolling hills and peaceful countryside, eventually arriving in Kalambaka for the night.

Meteora – A Spiritual Landscape Above the Clouds

The next morning, Susanne and her friend woke up eager to see Meteora, one of Greece’s most stunning natural and cultural landmarks. Towering rock formations rose from the earth, with centuries-old monasteries perched on their peaks. Visiting these sacred places felt like stepping into another world—quiet, serene, and full of wonder.

They took their time at each stop, marveling at the views and the stories behind each monastery. Their driver made the experience even more special, helping them avoid crowds and discover small details along the way.

On their way back to Athens, they made a short stop at Thermopylae, where they viewed the monument of King Leonidas—a perfect finale to a history-rich journey.

An Unforgettable Break After the Race

This short escape to Delphi & Meteora was just what Susanne and her friend needed after the marathon. It offered the perfect mix of relaxation, discovery, and inspiration. With a private driver handling all the logistics, they traveled in comfort and peace.

What started as a visit to run through history ended with a journey deep into Greece’s ancient heart—proof that even a short trip can leave a lifelong impression.
