According to the myth, the island got its name from Kimolos, its first inhabitant who was the husband of Sidi, daughter of Taurus. Prassa, Aliki, Agios Georgios, and Kalamitsi are the best beaches on the island, Aliki and Kalamitsi lie on the southern side of the island, while Agios Georgios can be found on the northern side. Chorio, the only village and capital of the island. There, you will find many hotels, restaurants, traditional taverns and all kinds of facilities for a convenient stay. Must-visit places in Chorio include the Folk & Maritime and the Archeological Museums, thanks to its proximity to the port and the fact that it is touristically developed.

Kimolos is only accessible by ferry. There are limited ferries from Piraeus port in Athens, as well as from other Aegean islands. The most popular route to Kimolos is by ferry to Milos, followed by a local boat. The nearest airport to Kimolos is on Milos Island, with domestic flights from Athens.
