Originally a secluded fishing village, the place started to gradually develop in the 1970s when Athenians built summer houses there and many rich men bought plots of land. How to get there?
Ferries to Porto Heli depart frequently from Piraeus, Athens’ main port, about 4-5 times per day. The 2-hour ferry ride is by hydrofoil, which carries only passengers (no cars). These ferries also connect Porto Heli to other Saronic Gulf destinations like Poros, Spetses, Hydra, and Ermioni. From Spetses, local boats to Porto Heli or Costa (a port 4 km away) run every 30 minutes. To reach Porto Heli by car, drive via the National Road Athens-Corinth, passing the Corinth Canal, and follow signs to Epidaurus and Porto Heli through Kranidi (about 180 km). There is no airport in Porto Heli; the nearest is Athens International Airport. From there, you can take a ferry from Piraeus or a KTEL bus (which stops at Nafplion or Kranidi before reaching Porto Heli). Private transfers offer more comfort but are more expensive.
