Although the history of this town dates from ancient times, few ancient remains survive today, except for the Roman Oden. Most sights date from modern times, including elegant mansions in the city center. In the surrounding region, there are relaxing beach places for summer vacations, such as Rio, Psathopyrgos, and Vrahneika. Holidays in Patra can be combined with trips to other close destinations, like Olympia, Nafpaktos, and Mesolongi. How to get there?
Visitors can reach Patra easily by KTEL buses from Athens, departing from Kifissos Bus Station, with a 3-hour journey. To drive, take the National Road via Corinth, then follow signs to Patra (about 211 km). The road narrows after Corinth, so drive carefully. Private transfers offer comfort but are more expensive. Patra’s port connects to Italy (Bari, Brindisi, Ancona, Venice, Trieste) and Ionian islands like Ithaca and Kefalonia. Araxos Airport, 40 km from Patra, operates seasonal flights from May to October. Alternatively, take a train from Athens to Kiato, then transfer to another train to Patra, with a 3.5-hour total trip.
