Iraklia is the largest of the islands of the Lesser Eastern Cyclades complex, located between Naxos and Ios. In the Heraklia ecosystem live the Mediterranean seal Monachus Monachus, the sea turtle Caretta caretta and other protected rare species. Of particular interest are the cave of Agios Ioannis, a wonderful creation of nature, the castle and the beautiful beach at Livadi, with the islet of Venetiko in front. The picturesque port of the island owes its name to the church of Agios Georgios. The houses of the settlement follow the natural relief and have a beautiful view of the sea. An excursion boat connects the port with the inaccessible beaches of Iraklia and Schinoussa. Panagia is a Mediterranean settlement of rural character, with stone-built houses and cobbled streets. From there you can visit the Cave of Agios Ioannis, with rich stalactite and stalagmite decoration, as well as the Merichas Area, with the “wing”, imposing vertical rock.
