The area’s inaccessibility and numerous rivers once led to the construction of bridges, especially during winter. Wealthy families funded village connection projects during Zagori’s “golden age,” though many were unsuccessful. Today, about 60 bridges remain in excellent condition, and another hundred have been destroyed.
