Embark on a journey along the ancient road that once connected the port of Old Epidaurus to the Asclepius sanctuary, one of the eight cultural routes in the municipality of Epidaurus. This historic path traces the footsteps of ancient pilgrims who sought healing from Asclepius, the god of medicine. The route winds through the serene pine grove known as “Pilari,” where you’ll encounter fascinating remnants such as chariot wheel imprints, votive stones, and Hermetic columns, left as tributes by those seeking divine healing.

As you walk, the natural beauty of Argolis surrounds you, providing a peaceful and captivating atmosphere. The trail features a tranquil resting spot among plane trees by a gentle stream, offering a perfect pause for relaxation. The route also passes the inviting courtyard of a local Orthodox Church, allowing you to reflect and recharge.

The Asclepius path culminates in the village of “Ancient Lyssa” (Ligourio), where Byzantine history unfolds through its chapels, providing a mental exploration of the region’s spiritual past. The entire experience, rich in natural and historical beauty, offers a rejuvenating connection to both body and mind.

This easy, 4-kilometer route has a slight altitude difference of 80 meters and takes approximately 1.5 hours to walk, with a total activity duration of 3 hours. The trail, which is accessible year-round, is suitable for all participants. The hike is particularly enjoyable due to its forested areas, olive groves, and Byzantine churches.

The tour is led by a licensed mountain guide and includes water, a homemade snack, and pharmaceutical equipment. Don’t forget to wear hiking shoes, bring a rucksack, sunglasses, sunblock, water, snacks, and a hat.
