According to mythology, Theseus died on this island. Thetis also hid her son Achilles so that he would not go to fight in Troy, disguising him as a girl. Skyros is the least touristically developed island of the Sporades. Having secluded beaches, traditional architecture and a complex network of hiking trails. On a hill above Chora sits an imposing Byzantine castle and the monastery of Saint George, one of the most important landmarks.
