Samothraki is an island of the Thracian Sea in the northeastern Aegean. You can go to Samothraki by plane, train or road, up to Alexandroupoli. After leaving the port of Alexandroupolis you will arrive after about 2 hours at the port of Kamariotissa with cheap return tickets. Routes to and from Samothraki are also carried out from the ports of Lemnos. Τhe most important archaeological site on the island is the sanctuary of the great gods where the Cyberian Mysteries took place, where the parents of Alexander the Great, Philip and Olympias, met for the first time. Slaves could take part in these mysteries as opposed to the Eleusinian where they were only addressed to “free citizens”. Τhe island was conquered by the Turks and in the Greek revolution the holocaust of Samothrace took place. Its mountain villages and especially Chora, which is amphitheater and picturesque. Also, to walk in its mountains, but with caution because they hide dangers. Fegari peak with an altitude of 1,695 meters is accessible. Samothraki also has nice hotels, and many rooms for rent and campsites. The island is famous for its delicious and tender goat, tsigerosarma which is a Thracian specialty and of course for all Greek dishes (from stuffed to pastitsio) in their best version. Of course it also has fish.
