Don’t forget to make a stop at the Elatias forest, one of the most significant ecosystem in Europe.

The city has many classic places that you should visit such as the Archaeological Museum, the park of Agia Varvara, the statue of Eleftheria and Kolokotroni. Also walk in Eleftheria Square, visit the church of Agios Nikolaos and the Byzantine church of Agia Sophia. In fact, the latter is the oldest surviving building in Drama. Of course, don’t miss a visit to the Macedonian tomb from the Hellenistic times that was found inside the city.

Your visit to the cave of Agitis is almost mandatory. It is the largest river cave in the world with a length of 21 kilometers. Then you can visit the Korylovo hill which is a very short distance from the city (by car). If you want to see traditional country houses then you have to go to the town of Doxato. Also, don’t miss a walk in the Petroussa gorge with the impressive stone theater, a passage from Nevrokopi to see up close the village where the famous Greek potatoes come from and Volakas to try the traditional Volaki sausage. Two other quite interesting villages are the village of Nikiforos and Paranesti.

For your shopping, the local market will surprise you. Buy local products as halva, spoon sweets, and pasta from the women’s productive and tourist cooperative.
