This year, Greece will join the celebration of European Cultural Heritage Days from September 27 to 29, under the theme “European Heritage Days 2024: Routes, Networks, and Connections,” as announced by the Greek Ministry of Culture.
Now in its 28th year, the European Cultural Heritage Days will feature a diverse lineup of events including exhibitions, workshops, performances, and guided tours, all centered around the role of heritage in building a sustainable future. On the weekend of September 28-29, visitors can enjoy free access to state-run archaeological sites, museums, and monuments throughout Greece.
This year’s celebration is particularly special, marking the 70th anniversary of the European Cultural Convention, which was signed in Paris in 1954 to promote and enhance European culture.
The 2024 theme emphasizes the importance of both the tangible and intangible aspects of European heritage. Some events will require physical attendance, while others will be accessible virtually. The focus will be on the connections, shared values, and achievements of communities across Europe, highlighting how these bonds have shaped the continent’s rich cultural landscape.
