Travelers will have more options to reach Greece in 2027. New flights to Greece will strengthen air links between Athens and North America.

Delta Air Lines will launch a new nonstop route between Detroit and Athens in June 2027. At the same time, Air Canada will extend its direct Athens services further into the winter.

The changes highlight continued demand for travel between Greece and North America.

Delta Launches Detroit–Athens Flights

Delta will start nonstop flights between Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and Athens International Airport on June 8, 2027.

The seasonal service will operate three times per week. Flights will run through October 28, 2027.

The new route will make Detroit Delta’s fourth U.S. gateway to Athens. The airline already serves Athens from New York-JFK, Atlanta and Boston.

The new service will also give travelers in Southeast Michigan their first nonstop connection to Athens.

The route will strengthen access to Greece for travelers across the wider Midwest. Passengers will also have connecting options through Delta’s Detroit hub.

Delta says travelers can connect from more than 40 U.S. destinations through Detroit. This will give passengers across the airline’s domestic network another option for reaching Athens.

Athens Becomes a Major Delta Destination From Detroit

The new Athens service will expand Delta’s international network from Detroit.

During the peak summer season, Athens will become Delta’s 12th long-haul destination from Detroit. It will also become the airline’s seventh destination in continental Europe from the hub.

Delta plans to operate the route with an Airbus A330-200.

The aircraft will offer four cabin options. These include Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main.

The new Detroit–Athens service will therefore add another direct link between Greece and the United States during the busy summer travel period.

Delta Expands Its European Network

The Detroit–Athens route is part of a wider European expansion for Delta in 2027.

The airline will also launch Boston–Venice flights on May 7. The service will operate four times per week through October 29.

Delta has also announced daily Austin–Paris flights. That service is scheduled to begin on March 27, 2027.

The airline is also adjusting several existing European routes. Some seasonal services will start earlier in spring. Others will continue later into autumn and winter.

These changes will give travelers more options when planning European trips outside the traditional summer peak.

Air Canada Extends Athens Service

North American airlines are also adding more capacity to Athens.

Air Canada is extending its direct Athens services into the winter period. The airline will operate flights between Athens and its Canadian hubs in Toronto and Montreal.

The move will provide Greek travelers with more direct access to Canada and onward connections across North America.

Air Canada has also highlighted its use of widebody aircraft on the routes. The extended schedule will support both leisure and business travel.

The airline says its longer operating season will also help support travel during traditionally quieter months.

Strong Demand From the North American Market

The expansion comes as Athens continues to see strong demand from North America.

Athens International Airport data showed that Air Canada’s direct Athens passenger traffic rose 13.5% in January-August 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.

Canada ranked as Athens’ ninth-largest international tourism market during the first eight months of 2026. It was also the airport’s second-largest long-haul market.

Overall traffic between Canada and Athens increased 6.7% during the same period.

AIA data also showed that 26.5% of Air Canada’s Athens traffic originated in the United States. This highlights the role of Canadian hubs in connecting U.S. travelers with Greece.

More Ways to Reach Greece

The new Detroit–Athens route will give travelers in the U.S. Midwest a direct option for reaching the Greek capital.

Air Canada’s extended schedule will provide more travel options between Greece and Canada. Its network also offers connections for travelers from the United States.

Together, these developments will strengthen Athens’ links with the wider North American market.

For travelers planning a trip to Greece in 2027, the expansion means more routes, more connections and greater flexibility across the year.
