9 Days Athens-Grevena-Meteora

Day 1: Arrival in Athens

Upon arrival at Athens Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Athens. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or take an optional tour of Athens. Explore the iconic Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, where you can marvel at the ancient monuments and artifacts that shaped the Golden Age of Athens. Visit the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896 (brief stop), and pass by notable landmarks including the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Parliament, and Syntagma Square. On the Acropolis itself, admire the masterpieces of classical architecture, including the Propylaea, Temple of Athena Nike, and Erechtheion, culminating in the iconic Parthenon. Finish your tour at the Acropolis Museum, where you can see the treasures of ancient Athens in their new home.

Day 2: Athens – Ancient Sights

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive along the beautiful Athens coastline. Pass through the charming beaches of Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza, heading towards Cape Sounion, the southernmost point of the Attica Peninsula. Here, visit the stunning Temple of Poseidon, perched above the Aegean Sea with breathtaking views of the Saronic Gulf. After exploring the temple, enjoy free time to wander around the rocky promontory or simply relax by the sea. Afternoon at leisure or enjoy a free day in Athens.

Day 3: Athens to Grevena

After breakfast, take a drive to Grevena (about 4 hours from Athens). The scenic journey is a peaceful introduction to the region.
Once in Grevena, check into your hotel and take some time to relax.
In the afternoon, visit the Municipal Museum to learn about the area’s history. Then, take a walk around the central square and see the Old Grevena Bridge.
End your day with a delicious dinner, trying the famous local dish—Grevena mushrooms.

Day 4: Explore Grevena and Surroundings

Today, embark on a mushroom picking adventure in a beautiful, serene spot. Once you’ve gathered enough, a local chef will prepare them in traditional dishes, allowing you to savor the flavors of the forest.
In the afternoon, go for safari experience with a four by four vehicle. Then head to Mavrovouni a small village in the mountains with locally sourced ingredients.
Return to Grevena in the evening for a relaxing dinner.

Day 5: Grevena to Meteora

After breakfast, drive to Meteora, which is about an hour away. The journey offers stunning views of the Greek countryside.
Once you arrive, check into your hotel in either Kastraki or Kalambaka, the towns near Meteora.
In the afternoon, take a short hike to Great Meteoron Monastery, the oldest and largest monastery in the area. The views from here are absolutely breathtaking. If you prefer something calmer, take a hot air balloon ride to see Meteora from above.
For dinner, enjoy local specialties in one of the towns, with views of the Meteora rocks.

Day 6: Meteora Monasteries

Start your day by visiting Varlaam Monastery. It’s famous for its frescoes and offers some of the best panoramic views in Meteora.
Next, head to Rousanou Monastery. While smaller, it’s just as beautiful and offers a unique experience.
In the afternoon, visit St. Nicholas Anapausas Monastery and explore the scenic trails between the monasteries.
For the evening, enjoy dinner in Kastraki or Kalambaka, where you can see the Meteora rocks as the sun sets.

Day 7: Meteora Activities

Today, you have the option to try something adventurous. Experience a truffle hunting adventure with a trained hunter and his specially trained dog. The hunt begins immediately as the dog searches every corner of the forest, helping you find an abundance of truffles. After the hunt, indulge in a culinary experience where you can sample a variety of different mushrooms paired with wine. But that’s not all— the chef will prepare a delicious truffle spaghetti dish with wild mushrooms, and you’ll even learn how to cook with truffles yourself.
In the afternoon, visit Theopetra Cave, one of the oldest settlements in Greece.
Take the rest of the day to explore the small villages around Meteora, like Kastraki, known for its peaceful charm.
Enjoy a final dinner in Meteora, savoring the local flavors and reflecting on your time in this magical place.

Day 8: Return to Athens

After breakfast, start your drive back to Athens (approximately 4-5 hours) check into your hotel. Upon arrival in Athens, you will be transferred to your hotel for the night.
For your last dinner, expirience Athens by night. Enjoy the city one last time before your departure.

Day 9: Departure from Athens

After breakfast, transfer from your hotel to Athens Airport for your departure flight.
