Salamina is the largest island of the Saronic Gulf and the closest to the shores of Attica.

Salamina is the largest island of the Saronic Gulf and the closest to the shores of Attica. Salamina is located in the northwestern part of the Saronic Gulf and opposite the Gulf of Elefsina. The capital of the island is Koulouri, the modern city which has shops, cafes, restaurants and taverns along the coastal zone gather the most traffic. Aianteio is a coastal town with a significant holiday traffic, built on the southern shores of the bay of Salamina with a beach bar and organized beaches. Salamina also has other vacation spots such as Ampelakia, Knakia, Kolones, Peridteria-Halioti, and Selenia. A large religious pilgrimage takes place at the Faneromeni Monastery in a pine-covered area with beautiful beaches, in the northwestern part of the island.
