The “Nestor” Institute of the National Observatory of Athens is located in Pylos. There is also Sfakteria, a long and narrow island that closes the bay of Navarinos from the west, a pole of attraction for visitors. Messini is a modern city, spread over a plain area, near the banks of the Pamisos river. The “Island” as the city is called by its inhabitants, is an agricultural center of the wider region. Stoupa is a holiday center with sandy beaches, it is a pole of attraction for numerous Greek and foreign visitors. Paths from here lead to traditional villages of Messinian Mani.
