Lavrio, Loutsa, Marathonas-Schinias, Porto Rafti, Rafina, Oropos are destinations in Eastern Attica. Lavrio is the city with a leading role in the industrial production of modern Greece thanks to its mineral wealth, it is built on the south-eastern edge of Attica, in an area with unique natural beauties (Souni national park, lacy beaches), important archaeological sites (Souni, Thorikos, Kamariza) and heavy holiday traffic. There are the ancient mines, but also the Technological and Cultural Park of Lavrio. Its visitors have the opportunity to come into contact with the world of minerals and mines. The Museum organizes educational programs. Loutsa is quite a popular holiday resort, with sandy beaches and pine trees. Among the excavation findings of the area is the platform of a Doric pavilion temple from the 4th century. e.g. which was dedicated to Artemis the Bull. Marathon -Schinas is a town built in an area that has been inhabited since prehistoric times, Marathon is best known for the historical conflict between the Greeks and Persians (490 BC) but also for its artificial lake, which serves to supply water to the capital. There is also the archaeological site. On the shores of the bay of Marathon are built, among others, the settlements of Nea Makri and Schinias. Porto Rafti is a popular resort. ON one of the three islets that exist at the entrance of the bay, a colossal statue of a woman was found, which the locals called “the tailor”, and took its name from this. Avlaki is an organized beach. Rafina is a notable tourist center and port with a lot of traffic. From there, many ships leave for the western Cyclades mainly, but also Mykonos. The red Limanaki is the beach of the area. Oropos is a vacation spot for thousands of residents of the capital, who have privately owned houses and apartments. Its port, Skala Oropou, passage to Eretria, on the opposite coast of Evia.
